Fenwick & West announced it will open a New York office in June. San Francisco-based partner Daniel Brownstone and counsel Brian Hicks are permanently relocating to the new office, along with Mountain View-based partner Kristine Di Bacco. Partners Mark Stevens and Scott Joachim will split their time between the two coasts. Recent lateral partner Ian Goldstein will also work in the office. See story online.

Stuart Plunkett and Jonathan Shapiro joined Baker Botts as partners in the firm's recently launched San Francisco office. Plunkett, who works on antitrust and commercial litigation matters, comes from Morrison & Foerster. Shapiro, who advises clients in business and securities litigation, comes from Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky, and Popeo.

Alessandra Murata joined Goodwin Procter as a partner in the firm's ERISA and executive compensation practice in Menlo Park. Murata comes from Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom.

Osborne Clarke named Emily Jones as the new San Francisco and Palo Alto office head. She will start her new role in August. Jones succeeds Steve Wilson, who will move to New York in September to oversee East Coast operations.

Tax attorney William Gorrod joined Greenberg Traurig as a shareholder in the San Francisco and New York offices. Gorrod comes from Morgan, Lewis & Bockius.

Sedgwick added a four-person trial team to its Irvine office. The attorneys include partners Margaret "Peggy" Holm and Robert Zermeno and associates Allyson Ascher and Christopher Hall. The four join from Bonne Bridges, Mueller, O'Keefe & Nichols.

Alexa Greenbaum and Chris Alvarez joined labor and employment firm Fisher & Phillips as associates in Sacramento. Greenbaum comes from Porter Scott and Alvarez comes from Cook Brown.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Paul Grewal will join Facebook Inc. as vice president and deputy general counsel of litigation. Grewal will leave his post at the Northern District of California in June.


Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman added three partners to its litigation and corporate practices. The partners include employment litigator Tom Liu, employment and commercial litigator Stacie Yee and corporate lawyer Jenny Liu. Tom Liu and Yee join the Los Angeles office, Jenny Liu joins the San Francisco office. All three come from Squire Patton Boggs.

Thomas Masenga joined Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton as a partner in the real estate, land use and environmental practice group in Los Angeles. Masenga comes from Seyfarth Shaw.

Murphy Pearson Bradley & Feeney promoted Jason Fellner to shareholder. Fellner represents individual and corporate clients through professional liability defense and business litigation.

Jason Choy joined Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr as a an intellectual property litigator in Los Angeles. Choy comes from Kirkland & Ellis.

Daniel Stellenberg joined Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman as a partner in the firm's executive compensation and benefits practice in Palo Alto. He comes from Shearman & Sterling.

Michael Frank joined Sidley Austin as a partner in Palo Alto, adding to the firm's employee benefits practice. Frank comes from Morrison & Foerster.

Lowell Segal rejoined Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati as a partner in Palo Alto, working on life sciences transactions. Segal comes from Ropes & Gray. He worked at Wilson Sonsini as an associate from 2000 to 2008.

Anthony Basich, an entertainment litigator, joined Jenner & Block as a partner in Los Angeles. Basich, who has experience litigation and arbitrating disputes in the entertainment and media industries, comes from Hogan Lovells.

Adam Rosenthal joined Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton as a labor and employment partner in Del Mar. He comes from Littler Mendelson.

Nick Pujji joined Dentons as a partner in the litigation and dispute resolution practice and the venture technology practice. He comes to the Los Angeles office from DLA Piper.

Yi-Chin Ho joined Kirkland & Ellis as a litigation practice partner in Los Angeles. Ho, who specializes in the representation of Chinese companies, comes from Latham & Watkins.

Jeffrey Benz joined JAMS in the Century City Resolution Center. Benz has had several roles in the past, including his private practice shop Benz Law Firm and as adjunct professor at Pepperdine University Law School.

Wendel, Rosen, Black & Dean added three attorneys to its Oakland office. The lawyers include land use partners Allan Moore and Amara Morrison and real estate attorney Katie Ferrier. Moore and Morrison come from Gagen, McCoy, McMahon, Koss, Markowitz & Raines and Ferrier comes from The Gap Inc.

Melissa Shimizu joined Fisher & Phillips as an associate in Irvine, focusing her practice on employee benefits and health plans. Shimizu comes from DeCarlo & Shanley.

Keith Yandell joined DoorDash Inc. as the company's first general counsel. He comes from Uber Technologies Inc., where he was director of litigation. See story online.

Cary Chen was promoted to general counsel at San Francisco-based recycling and waste-reduction company Recology. Chen has been with the company since 2013.

Leonard Venger rejoined Buchalter Nemer as a senior advisor and chair of the litigation practice and entertainment industry groups in Los Angeles. Venger joins from Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc., where he was executive vice president and head of global litigation. See story online.

Ronald Cami joined Davis, Polk & Wardwell as a corporate partner in the firm's Menlo Park office. Cami joins from San Francisco-based private equity firm TPG Global, where he was general counsel.

Fox Rothschild added three attorneys to its taxation and wealth planning practices in San Francisco. The partners include estate planning and trust and probate law partner Peter Myers, taxation and trusts and estates partner Sean Kenney and associate litigator Matthew Mraule. All three join from Myers Kenney.

Benjamin Mulcahy joined Jenner & Block's L.A. office as partner in the content, media and entertainment practice, and as co-chair of the firm's trademark, advertising and unfair competition practice. He comes from Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton.

Courtney McNicholas joined Los Angeles-based plaintiff's trial firm McNicholas & McNicholas as an associate. She joins from her solo firm.

Randall Choy and Jeane Struck joined JAMS in San Francisco. Choy is a mediator on business and commercial disputes, construction defect, personal injury and torts, and Struck is a mediator on similar matters, plus government and public agency issues. Choy comes from Hedani, Choy, Spalding & Salvagione. Struck comes from Severson & Werson.

Robert Hight joined JAMS as a mediator and arbitrator in the firm's Sacramento Resolution Center. He was previously serving on the Sacramento County Superior Court.

Bruce Brusavich was inducted into the International Academy of Trial Lawyers at the annual meeting held April 2-6. Brusavich is from the Torrance-based law firm Agnew Brusavich.

Douglas Sheehy joined Aimmune Therapeutics Inc. as the company's first general counsel. Sheehy comes to the Brisbane-based company from Codexis Inc., where he served as general counsel. See story online.

Commercial litigator Michael McNamara and trial attorney Kirsten Hick Spira joined Jenner & Block as partners in Los Angeles. McNamara is co-chair of the firm's professional responsibility practice, Spira is a member of the practice. Both come from Steptoe & Johnson.

Nathaniel Weiner joined Shartsis Friese in San Francisco as counsel in the corporate department. Weiner comes from Acadia Healthcare Co. Inc., where he was deputy general counsel.

Former federal prosecutor Charles "Chuck" La Bella rejoined San Francisco law firm Bartko, Zankel, Bunzel & Miller as of counsel. La Bella who previously ran his own firm, spent two decades in positions with the U.S. Justice Department. He served as deputy chief of the fraud section in Washington, D.C. and as U.S. attorney for the Southern District of California.

Mark Hiraide joined Mitchell Silberberg & Knupp as a partner in the firm's corporate and business transactions group in Los Angeles. Hiraide comes from his securities law boutique firm Petillon Hiraide.

Gordon Peery joined Seyfarth Shaw in Los Angeles as chair of the firm's derivatives practice and partner in the real estate practice. He comes from Canadian law firm Borden Ladner Gervais.

Samuel Cooley joined DR Welch Attorneys at Law as a junior partner advising on commercial litigation and business transactions. Cooley comes to the Los Angeles-based firm, which focuses on the medical marijuana industry, from Traub Lieberman Straus & Shrewsberry.

Labor and employment law firm Fisher & Phillips opened a new office in Sacramento with the hire of regional managing partner Alden Parker and associate Katherine Sandberg. Parker and Sandberg join from Weintraub Tobin. It is the fifth office in California for the firm.

Fox Rothschild appointed five attorneys as new office managing partners across the United States. The attorneys include Alexander Hernaez, now managing partner in San Francisco.

Jeffrey Bleich joined Dentons as a partner in the firm's San Francisco office, advising public and private companies on policy issues. Bleich, who had been a partner at Munger, Tolles & Olson, formerly served as the U.S. ambassador to Australia and was special counsel to President Barack Obama. See story online.

Michael Zweiback rejoined Alston & Bird as a partner in the firm's privacy and data security practice and its government and internal investigations group. Zweiback, based in Los Angeles, joins from Arent Fox.

Leslie Hakala joined K&L Gates as a partner in the firm's government enforcement practice in Los Angeles. Hakala comes from the Enforcement Division of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

Jesse Cuevas joined Ropes & Gray as counsel in the firm's securities and public companies practice in San Francisco. Cuevas comes from Shearman & Sterling.

Miles Cooley joined Kelley Drye & Warren in Los Angeles as a business and entertainment litigator. Cooley comes from Reed Smith.

Marc Levinson was elected as president of the American College of Bankruptcy. Levinson is a restructuring lawyer in the Sacramento office of Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe.

Greenberg Traurig promoted regulatory compliance attorney and business litigator Anthony Cortez to shareholder in the firm's Sacramento office.

Susan Hollander joined Venable as an intellectual property litigation partner in the firm's San Francisco office. She is joined by counsel Jocelyn Belloni and associate Sharoni Finkelstein, who works in Los Angeles. The three lawyers come from K&L Gates.

Mayer Brown added five attorneys to its financial services regulatory and enforcement practice, including partner Jonathan Jaffe in Palo Alto. Jaffe comes from K&L Gates. The four remaining attorneys joined the firm's Washington, D.C. office.

Patent prosecutor and intellectual property attorney William Kezer joined Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky & Popeo as a member in the firm's San Francisco office. He comes from Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton.

Beth Fox joined Manatt, Phelps & Phillips as a partner in the firm's energy and natural resources practice. She comes to the firm's Los Angeles office from an in-house position with Southern California Edison Co.

Rachel Capoccia joined Jeffer Mangels Butler & Mitchell as a patent litigation partner in the firm's Los Angeles office. She comes from Alston & Bird.Robert Duran joined Manatt, Phelps & Phillips as a partner in the firm's tax, employee benefits and executive compensation practice. Duran, who works in Manatt's Los Angeles office, previously worked in-house and was a founding partner of Semper Law Group.

Holland & Knight appointed Joel Athey as the newest executive partner in charge of the firm's Los Angeles office. Athey will continue his white collar litigation practice while managing the office. He succeeds Paul Workman.

Littler Mendelson moved its San Francisco offices to 333 Bush St., located on the 34th floor. The firm leaves behind its previous location at 650 California St., where it resided for more than 40 years.

Adrianne Marshack joined Manatt, Phelps & Phillips as a litigation partner in the firm's Costa Mesa office. Marshack comes from Greenberg Gross.

Kenyon Jenckes joined Haynes and Boone as a patent counsel in the firm's Costa Mesa office. Jenckes comes from an in-house position at Qualcomm Inc.

Barton "Buzz" Thompson Jr. rejoined O'Melveny & Myers as a counsel in the firm's water industry practice group. Thompson, who is based in Menlo Park, comes from Stanford Law School, where he still serves as a professor of natural resources law.

DLA Piper promoted Angela Castro and Anil John Kalia as partners in the East Palo Alto office. Castro is a land use and real estate attorney and Kalia is a tax attorney.

Dean Fealk, a partner in the DLA Piper San Francisco office, was elected as vice chair of the Northern California District Export Council. Fealk is the head of DLA Piper's global equity practice.

Alex Tse has been named First Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of California. Tse was previously chief of the office's civil division. See story online.

Gordon-Creed, Kelley, Holl & Sugermanpromoted Cassandra Angel to partner in San Francisco. Angel is a litigator in the firm's transportation practice.

Raj Tanden has joined the L.A. office of Foley & Lardner as a partner specializing in corporate and tax matters. Tanden joins the firm from Buchalter Nemer.

Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton promoted 11 attorneys to partner. The lawyers include real estate attorneys Katharine Allen, Jennifer Renk and James Rusk, all in San Francisco, commercial and land use litigator Daniel Bane and commercial and insurance litigator Jeffrey Crowe, both in Costa Mesa, corporate lawyer Jeralin Cardoso in Del Mar and labor and employment litigator Ruben Escalante in Los Angeles. Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe promoted 19 attorneys to partner across its world offices, including 11 partner promotions in California. In San Francisco, the promotions include energy and infrastructure attorneys Rohit Sachdev and Kristin Seeger, public finance attorney Devin Brennan, real estate finance attorney Dustin Calkins and securities litigator Lily Becker. Arent Fox named Mary Carter Andrues as its white collar and investigations practice leader. Prior to joining Arent Fox, Andreus was an assistant U.S. attorney in the Central District of California.

Jennifer Lantz rejoined Haynes and Boone as a partner in the firm's trademark practice group, working in Palo Alto. Lantz comes from Hogan Lovells. She previously worked at Haynes and Boone for close to four years.

Edelson PC promoted two partners. The lawyers include Eve-Lynn Rapp, who focuses her practice on consumer technology class actions. Rapp will relocate to the firm's new San Francisco office. UC-Berkeley School of Law graduate Aaron Blumenthal has joined Edelson's S.F. office as an associate.

Owen Prell joined One LLP as a partner in the firm's entertainment and technology practices in Southern California. Prell comes to One LLP from The Art Law Group, which he founded.

Tarifa Laddon and Bonita Moore joined Faegre Baker Daniels as partners in the Los Angeles office. Laddon is a commercial and business litigator and Moore is a litigator in the firm's labor and employment group. Laddon comes to Faegre from Norton Rose Fulbright. Moore comes from Bird, Marella, Boxer, Wolpert, Nessim, Drooks, Lincenberg & Rhow.

Nixon Peabody promoted 11 attorneys to partner across its offices. The promotions include intellectual property litigator Jennifer Hayes in Palo Alto.


Retired judge Jeffrey King joined JAMS as an arbitrator and mediator in Ontario for the organization's Inland Empire office. He most recently served as an associate justice on the Fourth District Court of Appeal in Riverside.

Kathryn Spelman joined Hoge Fenton Jones & Appel as a partner, advising on intellectual property and business litigation. She comes from Mount Spelman and works in Hoge Fenton's San Jose office.

M. Andrew Woodmansee and Cary Miller joined Jones Day as partners for the firm's intellectual property and patent practice group. Woodmansee is a patent litigator and Miller advises biotech and pharmaceutical clients through patent strategy. Both come to Jones Day from Morrison & Foerster.

Howard Privette joined Greenberg Gross as a securities litigator in Costa Mesa. He comes to the firm from Paul Hastings.

Brendan Lund, Breck Milde and Perry Woodward joined Hopkins Carley as of counsel. Lund, a transactional attorney who works in the Palo Alto office, comes to the firm from Carr McClellan. Milde and Woodward are both litigators who work in the San Jose office. They both come from Terra Law. Los Angeles-based litigation shop Kendall Brill & Kelly promoted Randall Jackson to partner. Jackson's practice includes general commercial litigation, intellectual property, securities and entertainment.

Hoge Fenton Jones & Appel promoted three attorneys to partner in its San Jose and Pleasanton office. The promotions include employment attorney Jennifer Protas in San Jose, real estate and litigation attorney Steven Kahn in Pleasanton and family law attorney Michael Bonetto, who works in both offices.

Katherine Prescott joined Miclean Gleason as of counsel in San Mateo. The intellectual property litigator was previously counsel at Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr.

Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati promoted eight California attorneys to partnership. They include corporate and securities lawyers Erik Franks and Douglas Schnell as well as intellectual property lawyers TJ Graham and Douglas Portnow in Palo Alto, energy and infrastructure finance attorney Nicole Gambino, litigator Jennifer Schmidt and antitrust lawyer Jeffrey VanHooreweghe in San Francisco, as well as corporate and securities lawyer Jason Skolnik in San Diego.

Kalisha Crawford joined Liner as the firm's first chief marketing officer in Los Angeles. An attorney, Crawford was most recently senior marketing and business development manager at Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe in New York.
